Read the confidence badge

The confidence badge says how sure Luscent is that it read a change correctly. It is not urgency and not a forecast; use it to decide how closely to check the source.

Common questions

Why do Compliance Signals always show 100%? They come from deterministic rules, not from reading language. A rule either fired on the Client's data or it did not, so there is no reading to be unsure about.

Is the confidence a probability? Treat it as a ranking aid, not a precise probability. It tells you which Signals to check against the source before you act.

What should I do when a high-confidence Signal is wrong? Dismiss it with a reason that says what the source actually meant, and use the feedback control on the Signal. Both are recorded.

Before you start

  • You know where a Signal opens and what it carries. If not, start with What a Signal is.

What the badge measures

Confidence answers one question: how sure is Luscent that the source says what the Signal claims? A Signal raised from an email that states "we sold the company last week" carries a higher confidence than one inferred from a change of tone across three messages.

It does not say how important the change is; that is the urgency. And it does not predict what the Client will do.

Steps

  1. Find the badge on the Signal, next to the urgency.

  2. Rules-engine Signals show 100%, because a rule either fired or it did not. Read the rule instead; see Read a rules-engine Signal.

  3. High confidence usually means the source states the change directly. Read the quoted passage and act.

  4. Lower confidence means the Signal is an inference. Select Open source and read the exchange yourself before you call the Client.

  5. Pattern Signals are as strong as the Signals under them. Open the linked Signals and check their confidence too.

Use urgency and confidence together

  • High urgency, high confidence: act on it today.

  • High urgency, lower confidence: check the source now. It may still be your first call of the day.

  • Low urgency, lower confidence: read it when you plan the week.

Tell Luscent when a reading is wrong

If a Signal misread the exchange, use the feedback control on the Signal to say so, and dismiss it with a reason. Both are recorded against the Signal.

NOTE. Confidence is about the reading, not about the Client. A Signal with very high confidence about a small change can matter less than a less certain Signal about a transfer request.
